The Biggest Obstacle to an On-line Business

That would be you! In other words the biggest obstacle to your success at building a successful on-line business starts and ends with you. Since I believe in the bell curve, there are 2% of you who don’t have this problem. For the rest of us, it is something that must be dealt with. It is not your fault, you were just programmed that way! Our brain wants to protect us from failure, so it sends its little subconscious messages to let us know we can’t do this.

Our parents helped build this for us by trying to keep us grounded in reality. But, whose reality? Remember when you wanted to be famous drummer in a big name band? They would tell you, you need to go to school, get a good education and get hired by a large company and grow in the business. You’d never make a living playing music. And they were right, for most people; but just think if Garth Brooks or Celine Dion’s parents told them that and they believed it.

Your Mindset, Knowledge and Habits.

Mindset The inner beliefs you have on things like self-worth, relationships, money and success.

Looking at self-worth, most think of themselves as being worth much less than they are. It was ingrained in you from childhood. It could range from being told you can’t do that, all the way to you are stupid. Much of that was done in an effort to protect you from your dreamer self.

Though it was meant to help you navigate your youth to become a productive person in society, thereby making a good living for you and your family. The effects are still the same. We as adults are more fearful and conservative in doing things for our future. We are trained not to rock the boat. We tow the line to what society as a whole has decided as to what is right and normal for a grown person to believe and most importantly to do.

The net result is that almost everyone in society is destined to be less than they could be, achieving lower amounts of success, money and great relationships.

Knowledge The education you have on a particular subject that you must know to perform your job efficiently and effectively.

The knowledge you need for having a successful on-line business is much different that what you’d need to be a doctor or lawyer. So you need to learn a new set of skills and build them into a second nature. The knowledge to have a successful on-line business starts with your market. If you do not have a market, none of your products and services are going to make one cent for you. You will then require a certain set of tools to make it work. Just like a brick and mortar store, you business needs to have certain things for it to function for you and your customers.

The idea of a totally free business is somewhat ludicrous. The good news is that it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. I’ll show you how in an upcoming blog. Every business has its overhead, it is just overall cheaper on-line.

Habits Those activities we do that are so second nature that we don’t even necessarily know we are doing them.

For most people, me included; as the years go on, some of our habits are more harmful than helpful. You know the ones. Does procrastination ring a bell? I certainly am afflicted by that one. Then there is the fear of contacting potential customers. Here is one some of you might say “yep, that is me”, the starting and stopping of whatever your new project is.

Needless to say many of your habits are holding you back, not pushing you forward.

How Do We Get a Better You?

There are numerous books that will help you do create the right mindset, develop your knowledge and develop helpful habits. I will list just a few here.

There are a multitude of seminars that you can attend locally or via the web. You can find a webinar on any subject you wish to learn about. Seminars range for free to hundreds of dollars. There is a wealth of knowledge out there waiting for you to come and get it.

There are 1000s of on-line trainings available to you, again on any subject you wish to broaden your mind with. Here the price can range from free to the thousands of dollars. They range from any self-help training all the way to everything you need to know to be successful on the internet. What to learn and the money you you wish to spend are the only limits.

Finally, we have Live Events. These can be for half a day, whole day, or even from 3-11 days or more. Here again the limits you set on yourself are the only limits. A valuable thing about live events is that you have a great opportunity to network with kike minded people that can help boost your business to new levels. Events are expensive to put on so tend to be at the top end of the outlay of money. The price here can run from the high hundreds to the high thousands.

A final way is through a mentor. This is someone who is very successfully doing what you want to do and willing to take you by the hand. They will teach you every nuance of what you need to do to be successful. Here it is not hard to pay in the hundreds of thousands. With the right one that can be worth every penny of what you pay.

Putting it all together

Now we have an idea what is holding us back. We also now have some ideas to become a better you! Our job now is to put it all together and change our lives and our businesses positively for the good of ourselves, our families, our business and most importantly all the people we are serving in our business. Here the three keys will be to first put it into action. Secondly, we will need to do it with consistency and finally remember our job is to create value for our customers.

The most important key is to put it into action. Remember every journey starts with the first step. If we do not get up and get moving, the only option is for us to remain in the life position we are now at. I am not there yet. How about you. So grab a book and start reading or listen. Start viewing seminars online on the subjects that interest you. Many of these are free or low cost. There are tons of online training centers. I will be giving you some of my favorite recommendations for excellent online business building training, many at low cost, yet some will be on the higher end of costs. A Live Event is an excellent format for developing your self. It can range from free to multi thousands of dollars. The King of the Crop is a Mentorship. Here again the prices can range in the hundreds to thousands of dollars an hour. But the bang for the buck is worth it if you get one or two things that raises your business to the next level.

Here is a quote from Dr. Galen Starr Ross. This sums up the idea I have just espoused of growing through your mental and emotional baggage to become the business person you wish to be. It says, “Anyone who can read and owns a dictionary can become an educated person. Hungry minds always become educated and sharpen their mental and emotional tools as they grow in life through experience.” This is how you become better at your business.

The next key to growing success in your business is consistency. You must consistently, grow as a person and as a business person. Consistently read books, watch seminars, do online training, attend live events and most importantly get a good mentor. You want to learn from some one who as done what you are wanting to do. You can’t listen to your mother, your brother, your cousin; or your best friend that says you can’t do your business. Get a real job!

Lastly, always, always; did I say always remember that your mission as a business owner is to solve pain points for your customers. That is why they come to you. They have a problem and want your solution to remove that pain point from their lives. Always, always; did I say always give your customer value. Give them more value than they expected from you and they will keep coming back for more of your solutions. This will create a base for your business to thrive and grow. Don’t look to sell a customer and then be gone. Build your relationships with your customers and they will become your best marketing tool.
